Snake Oil Crackdown

Prove It's Not a Scam

Prove It's Not a Scam

I will ask the Legislature to fund 12 prosecutors to aggressively investigate and prosecute false medical claims around essential oils, CBD, or other unproven and banned claims.

There are many who believe these products work, and that's ok.

However, in order to protect consumers, we must uphold and enforce laws prohibiting false advertising of cures.

Legitimate companies, with legitimate marketing practices, will not be negatively affected in any way.

Utah, for some reason, is Network Marketing (MLM) Xanadu.

Network Marketing can be a legitimate way to conduct a business.

However, for too long, many network marketing companies have made specious or even false claims about the "business opportunity."

In order to protect Utah consumers, I will introduce a bill which:

- Mandates that any MLM operating in Utah must publish the percentage of distributors who earn back their initial investment within 12 months.

- Mandates that any MLM operating in Utah must publish the percentage of distributors who earn at least $5,000 in their first 12 months.

This information will allow Utah consumers to make more informed choices about whether to join an MLM, and which MLM to join.

It sickens me to see our military installations surrounded payday lenders and companies which charge as much as 400% interest.

I will introduce a bill to ban loans to military personnel which exceed 29.99% APR.

I will introduce a bill which funds an additional 12 state prosecutors to investigate and prosecute predatory lending to our military personnel.
